Through the support of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, \u00a0the decision\u00a0to endorse the establishment of the Institute was made by the Assembly of the African Union at its Eighteenth Ordinary Session (January 29-30, 2012) in Addis Ababa.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>A year later\u00a0in its Resolution 67\/91\u00a0of January 14, 2013, the General Assembly of the UN took note of the establishment of the AIIL and encouraged the Codification Division of the Office of Legal Affairs to cooperate with the Institute in the implementation of the relevant activities under the Programme of Assistance.<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>AIIL is located in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania. AYIL is the only scholarly publication devoted exclusively to the theory and practice of international law as seen from an African perspective.<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>It provides an intellectual forum for the systematic analysis and scientific dissection of issues in international law as they apply to Africa, as well as Africa\u2019s contribution to the progressive development of international law.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p><p><strong style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; text-align: var(--text-align); font-size: 1rem;\">It contributes to the promotion, acceptance of, and respect for the rule of law in intra-African relations, and for the principles of international law in general.
